The Cirque of Navacelles
“A meteorite shower? No, it’s Navacelles cirque!”, went the slogan used to promote the cirque a few years ago, and it’s true that the spectacle offered by this great listed site is striking. Imagine wandering the vast steppe-like expanses of the Causse and suddenly finding yourself opposite a giant hole, with lovely greenery at its centre. That’s Navacelles, a cirque once created by the River La Vis, which has since deserted it to make way for a verdant, cultivated islet surrounded by big limestone cliffs. Today, the water takes the form of waterfalls over 8 m high.
