The Gateway Towns
The listed Property is a rural area with very low population density, so there is no urban centre to serve as a focal point for welcoming visitors and redeploying them across the rest of the territory.
Nevertheless, on the periphery of the listed Property there are several towns that have had or still have cultural, economic and social ties with the cultural landscape of agropastoralism. It was therefore proposed that five towns should be considered “Gateway Towns” of the Causses and Cévennes Property.
These towns are not managers or operators of the listed Property but play a specific role as a point of contact for communication, promotion and hospitality. The Gateway Towns are Alès (Gard), Ganges (Hérault), Lodève (Hérault), Mende (Lozère) and Millau (Aveyron).
